We have developed a leather like material for needs of 21 centrury. Material can be used in applications where animal leather is used with a difference of being produced in a completely sustainable way. Our materials are made from bacterial Cellulose fermented on waste from coconut processing industry and a blend of natural fibres. As such it remains home compostable, non toxic and also vegan. We run a small pilot manufacturing unit in Kerala - south India but there's plenty of unused coconut waste all around the Tropics hence : why not go coconuts?
Founder is a material designer and researcher from Slovakia. She is a graduate of MA Material Futures ( Central Saint Martin's, London) where she specialised in working with Bacterial Cellulose. She has several years of work experience as an apparel designer from Istanbul and London. In 2015 she moved to Mumbai, India for a job of a material designer / researcher at Godrej & Boyce Innovation centre. She stayed and decided to continue her material research focusing on natural materials based on Bacterial Cellulose. In 2018 she co-founded company - an Indian / Slovak start up developing sustainable materials for fashion industry needs. Her work has been internationally recorgnized and acclaimed as well as covered in media home and abroad. In 2018 she became one of Forbes Slovakia's 30under30. In 2019 she was awarded as a talent of a year by Czech EDIDA. In 2020 her start up and collection she designed won Indian sustainability competition Circular Design Challenge. In 2021 she won main price for her contribution in field of design from Nadacie Tatra Banka in Slovakia. She lives and works mainly in Kerala.
We have been developing our product for past 4 years as a start up. We have a product - material with basic mechanical properties sufficient for low load bearing applications where animal leather is currently used. We run a small pilot manufacturing unit in kerala with a production capacity of 200 m sq./month. We have trademarks both in India and Slovakia and a patent application in progress in Slovakia.
We have reached a stage where we are having a revenue able to sustain our production needs but we need further invertment in order to fuel our research further and to upgrade our manufacturing unit with equipment it needs to double our production capacity. The aim it to build a production unit that can work as a container unit system and be placed wherever availability of raw materials is.
We already have a client base and a marketing strategy in place. However in order to attract bigger clients we need to guarantee larger production capacity and constant quality of a product which is difficult with our current limited set up.
The purpose of the investment is to raise funds for implementation of technology necessary for increasing the production capacity of the pilot manufacturing unit. This will also enable us to produce materials and products of improved mechanical properties and quality and reach out to bigger clients in the market that require larger volume of production from their potential suppliers. Market for biobased alternatives to leather is projected to grow and we, right now, have a good position and opportunity to interact with key industry players. However it won't be possible for us to create better product without further finances.
